Microsoft has acknowledged reports of VPN connection issues after installing the April 2024 Windows 11 update, according to a report from Reddit user Flo-TPG. The KB5036893 security update, released on April 9 for all supported Windows 11 versions, has caused some users to experience issues with VPN connections that use TPM-backed certificates.
According to Microsoft, the update could be causing a “certificate could not be found” error when attempting to use the VPN. The company is investigating the issue and says more information will be provided in the coming days.
At the moment, the only solution is to uninstall the KB5036893 update. Microsoft says they are working on a resolution and will release a fix in an upcoming update. These recent VPN issues come about a year after Microsoft had to address major speed issues affecting L2TP/IPsec VPN connections on Windows 11 following an update. The update caused problems, and Microsoft has since launched a Windows Insider program to catch bugs in early versions of Windows updates. However, security patches can sometimes cause unexpected issues.
