Last year, Microsoft updated the licensing for Microsoft 365, Office 365, and Teams in the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland. We are now announcing our plan to expand this approach globally.
A consistent licensing approach helps ensure clarity for customers and simplifies decision-making and negotiations. With this in mind, we are updating the licensing of Microsoft 365, Office 365, and Teams outside of Europe to align with the recent changes in the EEA. As of today, we will be introducing a new range of commercial Microsoft 365 and Office 365 packages that do not include Teams outside the EEA and Switzerland, as well as a new standalone Teams solution for Enterprise customers in these regions.
Customers with existing subscriptions to Microsoft Teams will continue to have access to their current plans. More details will be provided below.
Changes to Enterprise Suite:With the introduction of the new commercial offerings outside the EEA and Switzerland, Office 365 E1, E3, E5, and Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 suites, as well as Teams, will no longer be available for new subscriptions. This means that customers who are currently subscribed to these offerings will have new options. They can continue using, renewing, upgrading, and adding seats to their existing plans as normal. Alternatively, if they want to switch to the new offerings, they can do so at their next contract anniversary or renewal date.
For new subscribers to Office and Microsoft 365 enterprise suites outside the EEA and Switzerland who want to provide Teams for their end users, there will be two options: they can choose between a Microsoft 365 suite without Teams or an Office 365 suite without Teams, and then purchase Microsoft Teams Enterprise separately. The current Frontline suites will continue to be available alongside the new lineup. Customers can choose between the existing Microsoft 365 F1, Office 365 F3, and Microsoft 365 F3 Suites with Teams included, or the newer versions of these suites without Teams.
